The way she makes it sound it's something that runs in a the family. Some people get early disc prolapses or have otherwise unhealthily formed back or spines and at some point that becomes very painful. Maybe something like that.
I can also see an accident (one of my workmates can't bend her right knee anymore after fracturing it during an unfortunate fall) or so as a cause but again, it doesn't sound like that.
