I wonder what I could've done differently to save this version of Ame from the hell that she'd throw herself into.

The Amelia Watson of the past died a long time ago.
And the worst part is that you can't even blame the GRIM era for it without being at least somewhat dishonest.
The absolute worst part is that it was nearly all self-inflicted. The fact that the grim era coincided with some of it was just something that caused her to double down on her own issues over leaning on supports.
But even without the grim era, I feel like she never would've leaned on the support. She never did.
This outcome should've been obvious from her Outer Wilds stream so many years ago. The kind of woman who would shut a stream off, grind it out on a stream frame that was off but not shut down, then turn it back on just to show herself pulling it off hours later? That person was too stubborn to ever take help.

That's true NOW. And has been for a while.
But my God, she did not act like that in the beginning.
