Booth is actually a pretty great resource for designs. If you search for visual novel or rpg character cutouts like: https://booth.pm/en/search/TRPG%E7%AB%8B%E3%81%A1%E7%B5%B5

a bunch a free, some are super cheap (like $3.50 USD after converting) and you might be able to get away with using some as placeholder pngs or as a base for building up your own avatar when getting commissions.
