How do I tell if I've been blocked/banned by my oshi?

So I know this originated from Pippa, but I've heard numerous times that it was met with controversy and anti's anti-ing, but what wa the controversy about? Was it just no-fun fags doing what they do best or something more substantive? Not trying to anti or concernfag, just genuinely curious but can't be assed to sift through over a year of autism in the archives.
