Most realistic theory seems to be:

>PK used their now-established brand recognition to negotiate even worse (from the talents' perspective) contracts, as opposed to the more generous ones early generations got due to streamers being more reluctant to join an unproven corpo.
>This compounded with management probably dragging its feet on the Oceane situation (due to wanting to avoid brand image damage and keep her as a revenue stream), but it probably made Gen 3 feel like they were paying out the nose fees to management which wasn't even good at managing.
>Collectively issued an ultimatum, and negotiations fell apart (as indicated by the poor timing of the press release by PK, which cast a gloom over Shee's donothon). So it wasn't an announcement they pre-planned well in advance
