It's never about keyfabe, it's always about the fucking STORY they create.

That Japanese comedian ojisan who watched Pekora playing DQ5 puts it very well. Even in the most long-ass shitty story based games (which EN never watches by default because there's not a single EN streamer who plays them properly) she makes a story with something or the other.

She sets things up such that her party members, her player character, and the NPCs, all have their own little "characteristics" that she one-sidedly puts on them. Either being "continuously x" which becomes a "running gag", or a "was continuously x, but then became y all of a sudden!" making it a character development moment.

This allows her to create authentic-feeling stories from just playing the game and having these NPCs interact normally.
EN girls SHOULD be able to do this as well, but well... none of them have really tried so far. Most of them are just content to say some sarcastic marvel style lines from time to time as "humor", cue LOLs from the chat, rinse and repeat.

The other method of creating interesting streams is just getting carried by the vibe of the game, and going full immersion - Subaru style. Getting genuinely into the narrative of the game, getting genuinely invested in the characters etc., getting sad, getting angry, getting happy, just going full emotional investment on the story and characters.
Unfortunately, modern western culture of "postmodernism" makes it so that people getting genuinely invested in something is a behavior shamed by most of society.
CGDCTfags, unicorns and parasocialfags are shamed mainly because of this reason.

Naturally this reflects on the EN girls as well. This also means that when there's people who are actually genuine (Gura for example) there's a feeling of "discomfort" because of that potential for attachment and the social shaming pavlovian response.
When Gura is gushing about Okayu or Shion for example, for someone who isn't a hardcore chumbud or otherwise invested, it comes off as fake.
"They're just doing it for the stream" or "it's all scripted" is a common normalfag complaint about chuubas for this reason.

EN girls will have to put in so much extra effort for something that comes naturally to the JP girls, because of this societal difference. And thanks to the second aspect of Western Culture - laziness + entitlement - they are less likely to bother with such stuff.

Best example of this is Kronii's Geoguesser streams vs that of Azki and Luna.
Where they try their hardest to guess the right location, Kronii is just like
> uuhhh this looks like africa so somewhere around here mb
> *20,000 km off the mark*
> ah, oh well, go next
