I'd write a post-apocalypse fic where the apocalypse is really only alluded to or is a background setting element that plays into the worldbuilding. Dangerous relics misunderstood, vague understanding that something was lost but the world has moved on, a rightly forgotten birthright, things like that. I blame Halo, The Dark Tower and Etrian Oddessy for it.
