Now that I think about it, Subaru's update is not really a rework either but might have been the proto 2.0 update. It looked really weird and through feedback they might have decided not to roll it out to the rest of the members and dumb it down instead.
Sort of like how Ame is able to get possessed by demons, they were testing the waters with her.
