I've never personally tried, but I can kinda relate to your issue. I love painting miniatures, but I have unreasonably shaky hands, so my style is very shader heavy, and it looks like all my minis have some "ultra realism dirt and grime" aesthetic but it's just because I can't hit those small details and hide them with shading.
