GUILT

While maybe not altogether a sin,
letting it consume you isn't something to strive for.
Stick to your guns, or be labeled a fool.
Stop taking responsibility for everything because it makes you feel like less of an asshole.
If it's for your own ego,
is being guilty REALLY as righteous as you think?

I enjoy electronic music, so the production is just pleasant to listen to. I think the the contrast of the somber vocals and the aggressive rap really resonate with the emotions behind the meaning.

09. Death Sentence

SIN CLASSIFICATION: Guilt

So sometimes, when you get all sinful and shit, you may start to feel guilty.
That's right. We've done all these sins, we feel bad about 'em...now you're gonna call us even MORE sinful for being guilty about it, Mori?? wtf

Well, not really. These sins are basically things I associate with myself, and guilt is something I occasionally feel to detrimental levels.

Guilt for not hitting expectations, guilt for not being what a company, a label, a group of people wanted me to be. Guilt for not hitting charts, guilt for not having as big of a reach as I promised. It still gets to me, as much as I try to push through it. Sometimes it muddles my mind and keeps me from moving forward, it's really an annoying blockade in my path but it's real.

What I really love about this song though- it was a cool opportunity to record entirely in auto-tune and be able to hear my voice that way while recording in studio. I wanted a more atmospheric, chill and vocal choppy track since I've heard such examples on other albums by favorites of mine. Why not mix it up as we approach the end of the album by adding something that's more about the overall feeling, vibe and lyrics, the SOUND- rather than the "technical rap or singing" I usually try focusing on.

I hope you'll enjoy it, as it means a lot to me.

Yours,
Mori
