If you want to learn, go to a site like regexr and test making filters there, the level of regex you need for effective filters is pretty basic. That being said I did fuck up once by forgetting to escape some *s, so for a period of 2 months or so I was filtering what was effectively a bunch of short random strings of characters which ended up filtering like a quarter of /hlg/. Even though there was no real logic to what was being filtered it still improved the quality of the thread and I only noticed I fucked up when I saw one of those big nousagi discussions on my phone and not on my computer and couldn't figure out what triggered it.
