It's funny because they specifically said in interviews that they didn't want to include elemental weaknesses because it made the combat boring if you were forced to only use fire for a fight.

The worst DmC does have elemental properties and the combat is complete dogshit because of it and was the biggest complaint about the combat on release (and the hd re-release removed the mechanic).
