Vtubers are virtual spokespeople that are better received by otaku than real people. The concept can be applied in a variety of ways, from having putting them in games, manga, animations, sketches, concerts, commercials, talk shows livestreams and anywhere else you'd have either a real person or an anime character. The ability to seamlessly operate in both fictional canon and the real world is the medium's true strength.

And in Japan, that's exactly how they've been using vtubers because unlike in the west, they don't have an obsessive autistic hatred for cute and funny things.

I legitimately don't like watching this person. They're a living reminder that I live in an oppressive communist dystopia. I can't ToT over that kind of brand. I just want something cozy and lighthearted that'll take my mind off the failings of the society within which I live.

I like Reine, but her streams have the same problem as most of the rest. For the vtuber, streaming is lucrative. For the viewer...not so much.

For the record, this is why some brands have loss leaders, like giveaways and promotions. One of the most reliable ways to get the attention of people who otherwise aren't interested is by making it worth their while. But that's just me looking at vtubing like I would a business, with both sides of the transaction expecting to come out of it with something of value.

They didn't, corporations as a whole are just intensifying it.
