This graph explains how the points work, you have an entry fee from Silver on, and get RP for up to 6 kills/assists (multiplied based on placement), and points for placement. It's possible to just rat your way through at least silver or abuse Bloodhound scans for free assists without actually fighting, but those are mind numblingly dull and completely unfulfilling ways to climb since you won't get better at all and you'll get stomped in higher ranks
