conceptually i like red and blue mages of the final fantasy series but i don't think they've ever really nailed them home because of how simple the stat systems are in the early installations and how they lack any unique reasons to use them.

FF tactics for one had plenty of funny little experimental takes on classes that i really really enjoyed though. red mages simply being white + black magic users kind of pale in comparison and lack identity
