Russian here, before myth if you were a russki into vtubers you probably were deep enough into the internet to know English at a conversational level so most of us were just using /jp/. I think the big thing (and why Botan is associated with Russians) was one of the only russian clippers who became an SSRB. Botan interacted with russians, which led to more "Botan speaks Russian" clips, and if anyone mentions Russia russians flock there in masses. I don't use local imageboards for they are pretty cancer nowadays so I can't speak for where all the russianbros are located. Maybe somewhere in VK (russian Facebook if it were zoomer-friendly).
