Part of it is that instead of spending currency on a permanent upgrade that is relatively cheap and doesnt get expensive.
Also by buying items you're not fixing the problem, you re just putting a band-aid on it thats gonna prevent you not only from getting better but also from getting cooler moves
Like summons in the souls games there's no problem with someone casually using items if they re not serious about it but it just doesn't feel like the "pure" experience for people that go hard on the game
