just do something easy that you know you can finish within reasonable amount of time so you won't lose motivation or throwing away your life making a game for free.
something like RPGmaker/rythm game should be simple enough but if you really ambitious with this and have the technical skill, personally i'd like to see 2D beat them up similar to odin sphere from ps2 era. also plot doesn't matter just focus on the gameplay.
