Yes, the same thing still applies. Small companies still have owners and managers who work to control their talents' content and streams to ensure they do not go over the line. An indie vtuber could turn out to be a Chinese supremacist who calls all Japanese pigdogs and claims their nationhood is false the very day they get the model and then the artist would be stuck with that very awkward connection. Meanwhile companies often own the models, instead of the vtuber themself, so there is a very good gap between them all, should the streamer turn out to be a problem.
