If that's the only concern I'm not sure what was wrong with Clocks's suggestion about circuit batteries...? Blood is cooler though, I'll give you that. And having your alchemists draw extremely complex, arcane circuits entirely in their own blood really adds to the whole "inethical experiments, body horror and human experimentation" theme you were outlining early on. They could easily store up stockpiles for bigger projects and/or emergencies (and, of course, in the biggest emergencies there's always the option of just cutting open a vein). Maybe there's even some form of state-mandated blood donation for the regions run by Magmates? Like taxes. But for blood.

Blood replenishes much faster than mineral deposits or whatever, but it's not exactly something you'd be able to just get more of on demand either, so I don't think it would unbalance wars too much if you went with it.
