On the topic of catheters, there's a type called a foley catheter. It has a seperate channel in the tube that allows you to inflate and deflate a little balloon at the end. Once the catheter reaches the bladder, the end is inflated to keep the catheter from slipping out.

I mention this because there are numerous stories of patients deciding, either through an altered mental state or pure stubbornness, that they want this tube out of their body RIGHT NOW and "successfully" pulling their catheter out with the balloon still inflated.
