If you’re looking for cheap countryside life in JP, either join the JET program in a remote part of Japan or buy a “free” abandoned house from a government agency and fix it up
Downsides to both are possibly no access to public transport, if you come from a country that drives on the left (rhd cars) you don’t need to take a driver’s test, your license transfers over
I live in the country (not JP) and sometimes I have the urge to live in a big city but once I’m there for a while I hate it
Would love to live near one though and use public transport, where I live there’s not even a bus stop
