Everyone throws the term around like it’s some kind of terminal diagnosis but really it just means “attachment to someone you don’t know personally” or living vicariously through a social interaction you’re not a part of— sitcoms, for instance. Getting invested in the actors’ interactions and feelings is considered a parasocial interaction, having a crush on a celebrity is considered a parasocial interaction, getting upset when your favorite TV actor is upset is considered a parasocial interaction. The only reason it has a bad rap /here/ is because what you choose to do with your parasocial feelings is bad, not the feelings themselves per se— like the Reimu incident. That was fucking ugly.
