I'm gonna be honest, I haven't delved too far into base building or multiplayer, the closest I've gotten to that is putting up rooms in the freighter and going to the Anomaly (multiplayer hub) sometimes for items. The bulk of my time in-game is spent doing shiphunting, pirate missions, raiding derelict freighters, and supervising my settlement; I'm more of a casual collector than anything. I attest to being a boring stream game but for me it's a great chill-out one. The recent updates have been fun for me but I wouldn't know about what you'd be interested in. Since Froot stopped playing they've added a good bit to the game, picrel is the recent one.
