I tend to see things the same way Fuuchan does, in that death and loss aren't inherently sad topics to me so much as they are simply inevitable facts of life. So while the track was definitely melancholy, for me personally, it wasn't depressing so much as it was a reminder to simply enjoy his presence while we still have it. Whether our wife leaves us in a week or a decade, the memories and happiness he's given us in the time we have together will remain. I don't really have a point here, I'm just kind of rambling. But I suppose, listening to that track, I mostly felt it was sweet of him to hope our paths would remain bright even without him to light our way.
