linguist call it the euphemism treadmill, it's the process where once non-offensive terms take on an offensive connotation and are replaced with new less offensive terms, only for those new terms to also become offensive over time due to their association of describing the same exact concept.
we're already seeing the pejoration of replacements for retard starting to become considered "ableist" slurs.
at the end of the day policing language is something moral busybodies do to feel good about themselves making a difference, but ultimately pointless because the concepts themselves still exist and so the treadmill keeps moving.
