You're not making the argument for why it should happen. You're making the argument that it's commonplace. Why SHOULD companies have this kind of power over fictional characters when they don't have this kind of power over real people? There's nothing stopping a real person from ruining their reputation, getting fired, and then getting a job somewhere else. You know what every other company does when that happens? They go "They don't work for us anymore and this person's behavior and/or values do not reflect the behavior and/or values of this company" and everybody fucking understands. Nobody gets confused. Why should it be different for a persona without any possibility of a discussion about whether it's right or not?
