TOTK was the better game but both BOTW and TOTK especially reveals how little Nintendo cares about the canon. The timelines were a mess but at least there was coherent narratives in them, and not retcons and story beats that make no sense. BOTW had at least the mystery aspect of the whole new canon while nodding at the old games stories, but TOTK just proved it was all a bluff and they just care about distracting people with new shinier. Result shows for itself in that nobody is talking about TOTK on youtube Zelda content creators even.
