The maneuver that Peppy tells you to do is NOT a barrel roll. It is an aileron rotation. A barrel roll is a spinning overhead loop designed to put you behind an unsuspecting target, or avoid one on your tail. It's closer to the somersault maneuver in the game than the famous "barrel roll".
