Here's the basic rundown for retardchamas:
Noisegate - software that exists to cut out the noise (wow!). Usually it's as simple as setting a threshold that just tells your mic to not pick up anything below <x> decibels. More sophisticated examples allow you to tweak it with more precision, once you understand what stuff like "attack" or "hold" are.

Limiter - it limits (wow!) and boosts sounds above and below certain decibel levels. It evens out your sound, so you when you scream it wouldn't go overboard, or so it would boost the quiet noises appropriately.

Mixer allows you to, well, mix. Analogue mixers are used to mix together various sounds from different instruments that come into them by tweaking the knobs and whatnot, so a virtual one is the same just, well, virtual. It allows you to have control over every sound that is happening on your PC, because your desktop sound, game sound, browser, your voice and whatever other applications and sound notifications you have all produce separate sound tracks, so instead of managing them individually, you can use one software to control them all at the same time. It lets you mute something for yourself while making it audible for viewers, for example, or control the volume of it.

VST plugin shell is a program that you put VST plugins in it. Imagine a line where on one side is your voice input, and on the other is the output. Without the shell your voice goes on one end, exits through the other, then into whatever software you're using to broadcast (like OBS), which then in turn applies its own filters to it (if you've set them up). With a shell (like Minihost Modular, for example), you can insert your own noisegate, limiter, compressor, etc while it's on its way from input to output, giving you more flexibility.
