Polka gets a genuine boost to her self esteem from getting all this love, and that's something she has said feels lacking in her day to day life. She also really wants to be an idol as she looks up to them quite a bit, so being able to achieve that dream through the support of her fans is yet another reason she cares about them. If her goal was to make money she'd do more SC readings, and if she just was playing a character she's lean into it more during her public streams. I'm a cynic at heart, but Polka's codependent stuff being genuine honestly makes more sense than not no matter what angle I look at it.
