sure, I'll take any input I can get.
Apologies if linebreaks un-spoiler these spoiler tags
I was using Audition on my main PC at home, going off memory on the effects chain here. All effects are the pre-loaded Audition ones.
IIRC, before I even put it into the multi-track editor, I tried to use the auto speech leveler with mild settings. I manually cut out a lot of the breaths she took to keep any compression or the leveler from fucking with it.
The original song sounded like it had both a cheesy 80's chorus effect, and some reverb. I think I had the chorus effect set to 4 voices, with binaural cues enabled which I am going to disable - too much stereo separation on the vox, I think it was only 10% wet on the chorus effect.
The reverb probably needs the most tweaking to get it sounding like the one in the song - followed by slightly better EQ.
Right now most of the EQ on the vox is coming from the multi-band compressor settings - the lows are turned down to get that "thin" 80s vox sound. They still sound like they have too much body to me.
I think there's a "tape" effect in there somewhere too.
I did nothing to the instrumental other than a tiny EQ dip on the mids to make some room for the vox and then just slapped a "mastering" effect on the master track instead of setting levels properly.
