It's mostly word of mouth over the years because it was hard for all of us as kids. The water level lowering and rising shit is annoying, but it's really not the hardest thing in the world. It's absolutely not fun at all, but Nintendo kept up the tradition of making every single water dungeon the least fun part of a zelda game afterwards because none of them are good and are always the worst part of the game. I actually like the Shadow temple less tho and find it to be far more of a pain in the ass.
