Playing Ishin and subsequently reading up on the history of Sakamoto Ryoma has me wanting to write a story where (You) are a foreigner stranded in feudal Japan, fighting for your life against racists and struggling to come to terms with the entirely different culture, customs and language. Maybe after some time, people become accepting of you and you become a key figure in east-west relations.
Only problem is that Japan back then largely revolved around powerful male figures, so even if I could come up with my own spin, it would be difficult to insert female chuubas and argue that women carry katanas around and have political power. Maybe I'll think of something, but I can only make so many innkeepers and prostitutes, and as fun as the stars are, I don't want to write them at the centre of the story.
