Fun fact/lore from the novels:
Vergil lost to Mundus right after losing to Dante in DMC 3, he was too injured but honestly wouldve lost anyway.
Mundus had him imprisoned instead of killing him but for a long time he was never able to break or corrupt Vergil.
Now how did he manage to corrupt him into Nelo Angelo? he played into Vergil's thirst for power and desire to beat Dante so he just gave him a fuck ton of power until he got corrupted.
