Hello :3

>"Why do you make the art you make?"
Artists take pride on every piece we made, of each one of those we can proudly say "This is truly mine, I made this!". That one thing alone is enough to keep artists going.
>I imagine it was very very similar when the leap to digital art first began.
I did not experience the transition professionally so I can't say anything about that, but college me sucked at traditional coloring and only looked up for the day I finally own a Wacom and do digital drawings.

Most artists doesn't know the difference between the subscription based Stable Diffussion and the webui based Stable Diffussion. So they assume that there is one massive AI with a massive pool of database constantly learning and training everyone's artstyle from Danbooru, Deviantart, Pixiv, etc. When they see something that's similar in composition to an existing art, they're most likely seeing an img2img result or a controlnet result, a completely different process that you have to actually copy-paste that someone else's art into the equation. But those who don't have much knowledge will just generalize them as the same because both are still generated by AI.
>If they only used art with permission it would take a little longer but we would still reach the same conclusion
Yes, they will still end up questioning it because there is no way to make sure that the source are entirely "clean"

If you're going to profit from it, the only ethical way to use AI is when they use their own models / LoRAs trained by using their very oen assets locally. But then again, see above, people will still end up questioning it.
Check out Hyung Tae Kim, artist for Magna Carta, Blade And Soul, and NIKKE. I think he's a good example of someone who generates by using his own models and assets.
