Yeah! That's something neat about biological vs mechanical design. In a mechanical device you always want to keep "moving parts" to a minimum, because something that gets broken requires repair or a replacement part. On the other hand biological system usually have self-healing properties inherent, since they had to grow themselves in the first place. So you can have a lot more moving bits that can just be re-grown if necessary. Like your stomach lining, or how you have muscles along the entire length of your intestines.
Though obviously you can implement self-healing features in mechanical systems, and biological systems can undergo damage that can't be repaired.
I've got some ideas for shock absorption in the cockpit! That thing about wet-running cockpits, I think I'm going to nab the LCL thing from NGE and have the whole thing flooded with oxygenated fluid, to help cushion potential concussive damage, as well as other advantages (For the high performance, military Daemons where that would be useful). The cockpit organ would also be suspended on elastic tendons so that impacts to the carapace are dampened. The tendrils can have a role too, like form the shock-absorbing seat or something like that.

How big is it? The plant would need to be quite a bit smaller than its preferred host so that it isn't quickly noticed and shaken off.
I could imagine some animal that has a symbiotic relation with this plant, using it as a form of defense, similar to some crab that stick anemones on their shell. Imagine trying to bite something covered in cactus spines.
