And then some. This is not-infreqient in Chinese SNS, when they want to explain how strongly they feel about Taiwan to someone in the US. It's been that way long before anything with Coco.
"Just think how you would like it if we started promoting California independence!" but they legitimately don't realize that the US already gives the proverbial fifteen minutes of media attention to California seceding after every-other presidential election. Meanwhile, it's a constant topic in parts of Texas (where it is complex, low-key, and only half-serious, but it doesn't wait for elections for it to come up, t. Texan). And none of us would miss Florida, which is why they'll never leave: to deny us that joy (I kid Floridians, y'all're alright).

If you live in the Chinese media ecosystem, it's taken as a given that this is a great "gotcha" argument against Americans, because they are never exposed to the actual response: "Meh, sure? Go for it?" Even further beyond their comprehension is how, precisely because it can be so often discussed, it is not seen as some imminent fear. The dynamics of a more open information ecosystem is beyond their comprehension.

Please excuse the rant, have an on-topic picture.
