I've been doing it for years and I'm honestly still terrible at initiating conversations & whatnot. I'm a failed normie so I can generally hold a conversation and whatnot, but unless someone initiates a conversation with me I just assume they are busy/aren't interested so I seldom talk to people I don't already know unless they're cosplaying the same series I am. I'll ask for pictures if I see a costume I like but I'll usually just leave it at that.
If you need something to laugh at, last year a girl walked up to me and complimented my costume and I gave her basically an "oh, thanks, y-you too" and walked away because I was just that nervous after being a shut in WFH worker that only had a handful of in person conversations with non family members from March 2020 - March 2022

I just had a super easy behavioral interview as well and went full sperg during it. Just gotta live and learn and keep getting better. Things will probably work out somewhat if you just keep putting in the effort.
