Most substantially different from Europeans, the Asian peoples value harmony, and tend not to see freedom as important. This means if you have a hobby that would be looked down on by your wife's family, you will receive constant pressure to abandon it an conform. They will not understand why you would resist such pressure. Sure, such things can be worked through, and you can stand your ground, but the point is they fundamentally won't understand your point of view, because they have a different racial/cultural character.
Make up your own mind, but it would be distressing to me to have a wife that doesn't understand why I would let our daughter pursue her own hobbies, rather than enroll her in extra lessons/piano for prestige.
