Otsonny!! While today may have not been the day for an unarchived english karaoke with a setlist pulled straight from a /mu/tant's 3x3, he still brought out some underrated bangers and it was a pretty great time. Ahhh my /a/ pickme husband you fucking faggot i love you. And hey, a real DAM machine, moving on up in the world. Jojo was a classic and not unexpected opener, good to build hype for any karaoke, but the rest of the setlist was where the real kino kicked in. As soon as i heard that guitar intro to ride on shooting star... man. FLCL and the pillows are really special to me and i didnt know how badly i needed to hear him sing that song until now, thank you sonny. So many other good picks today too, from K-ON and cowboy bebop to lucky star... Misoji misaki was so good, even without training (and with his throat in bad shape) his voice is great for enka. The growls get me every time... and of course the obligatory enner shoutout, I need a solo cover from sonny first but an enka duet in the future with those two could be amazing. Even when he was fucking dying, he pushed through to the end. Kick back, his closer, definitely wasn't easy but at least it was "familiar," so he wasn't so worried about tryharding it. You could tell by the end he was kind of frustrated about his voice giving out like that, but i think he's gotten better at just taking it in stride instead of beating himself up too hard for something mostly out of his control. His pure unadulterated SOVL warms my kokoro every time; he has so much fun when singing and it's infectious (kusuo rumba!!!), i love his little ad libs and monologues he inserts during instrumental breaks. It's also honestly a coin flip on whether he really hits those high notes but he always just goes for it without hesitation and its fucking incredible when it works. While I'm sure he's not 100% satisfied with his performance today, it was a really enjoyable time, voice cracks and all, and I look forward to him doing another one hopefully soon-ish. The fanmixes too, those are gonna be good.
God knows why the fuck he's still in Japan (I'm seeing that voice tweet from bon right before i post this what the fuck), I wish he could/would be more open with us but I'm pretty worn out from all the speculation and rrats in general this month...
