It is considered one of the main contenders for game of the decade for the 2010s. It forever changed the meta genre and is considered one of the few video games to approach literary art as a video game. It was so popular it immediately caused all contrarians to immediately vow to never play it and now has a wide hatebase consisting of people who have literally never touched or seen the game.

Playing it as a solitary blind experience has caused it to have been one of the most emotional experiences in gaming for a large amount of people. However, now it's far more difficult to have that experience with it. Me overselling it to you is in fact damaging your potential Undertale experience right as you are reading this post. It is best played at face value. If done so, the game is genuinely touching and will lead you emotionally. If nothing else, the soundtrack is considered one of the best in all video game history.

It is a game that /v/ actually loved when it released. The demo was literally one of the most popular things on /v/ when it released and the game was mega hyped, but did not disappoint people at all.
