/vt/ might be a minority, but do you know how many people say "I'm ok with anything", then X happens, they never admit they were against it, but over a three month period drop a hobby.
Political shit is EVERYWHERE and a lot of people don't want to deal with it in their entertainment. It's in the news, it's on social media, it's in sports, often times its in the workplace and many, many, many more places. People are sick and tired of it.
Would they get away with it? Of course, but don't be surprised when people who are "ok with it" slowly start to drop out. If they're going to deal with this shit, they might as well buy a comic book. People like their ESCAPISM to let them escape from IRL bullshit.
