How tough is the second half of this fight she's doing anyway?

I am currently thinking about how I had both a N64 and a PS1 as a kid and I simply couldn't understand why my friends kept trying to pit them against each other and screaming about which one is totally better when I could see that both were great.
So why am I seeing grown men and vvymen do the same thing 25 years later?
