Here's my proposal: in some country, a war was fought between humans and werebeasts. It was similar to our own but slightly more futuristic, but still fought with firearms. The werebeast faction (which, by the way, included Botan as their top shooter) had better speed and reflexes. The humans developed robots to match the werebeasts. Roboco was amonst the most advanced, as a result she developed personality and emotions. She even gained empathy for the other side, even wearing animal ear souvenirs. For this she was decommissioned and left to rust in a wasteland before reactivating.
