Try as they might to market it as such, it's really not meant for the mainstream in a standard sense. The feeling you get while watching it is that James Cameron is an auteur, and this is a film made for him and him alone. it's just an absolutely lucky coincidence for all involved that James Cameron's personal tastes happen to very closely align with the general public. Make no mistake, Avatar 2 is a film that can appeal to tons of people, but it's so fucking indulgent and detailed that it appeals even more to autists.
