Possession is too obvious, but still makes the most sense. Almost every tweet leading up mentioned headaches. They share the same rigging which implies a connection. Jelly's ring is now red (corrupted). Only big difference between the two is the missing headband. The headband, while originally believed to be ordinary, could've acted as a protective device specifically for dealing with psychic attacks. Or maybe it's its own entity entirely. Alice was strong enough to read Jelly before, but not powerful enough to fully take over. Only thing that doesn't make sense is the amnesia, but that could be explained away as part of the possession process.
The real question is how Jelly is supposed to come back from this. Lore wise, she's still an ordinary girl as far as we know. Either Alice's grip weakens as parts of Jelly's psyche return or we get outside help.

It's the inner voices gimmick. Not the gameplay.
