Alternatively something like Saya no Uta, where there's a badass girl who was exposed to the horrible monster and became obsessed with learning all the secrets of how it works and (you) are taken under her wing to take down the greater evil, all the while uncovering the terrible secrets of the monstrosities that exist within this world. It almost could apply perfectly to Lamy since the monster can turn others into its kind too.
