When I lived with my parents, I found the easiest way to answer those kind of questions is to bring it back to money. Say something like "They're collectables from asia and in a few years will be pretty valuable". Usually they won't ask who/what it is after that because you're speaking in terms they understand. Unless you don't mind just explaining it to them.
