I couldn't figure out that you have to CLOSE the player to make the little thing show up

I can't remember what initially lead me to believe this was a thing but does Twitch have some way of detecting a viewer has a stream muted and not count them as a view / not give the streamer ad revenue / whatever?
A lot of the time I'll have like 4 or 5 liggers streams open set to exactly 1% volume so it isn't technically muted just to give them that microscopic amount of support even if I don't feel like watching them at that time but idk if it actually does anything if im not directly in their tab or if muting them makes no difference
